"Life isn’t merely about what happens; it’s about who we choose to be in the space of what happens. Life can get us down, and for most people at some point it most assuredly will, but it can only keep us down if we refuse to rise back up. What the ego destroys love will resurrect." Marianne Williamson
Dr. Wellspring grew up on a fruit tree ranch in Southern California. There she developed a deep love for nature at a young age and spent as much time as possible outdoors making forts in the avocado trees, foraging for wild edibles and riding horses. Always a food lover she learned how to cook at a young age and spent a lot of time in the kitchen creating extravagant meals for herself and her friends. She loved the whole process of growing food, preparing it and eating it. In her early twenties, she spent several years working on organic farms learning how to prepare the soil and tend for plants and fruit trees to cultivate nourishing foods. At the same time, she worked as a chef under the tutelage of famed raw food chef Juliano Brotman and then went on to run her own kitchen at the Juice and Jolt café in Topanga Canyon, CA preparing mostly raw, vegan and vegetarian foods. These experiences with food both growing and preparation gave her a deeper understanding for the principle of food as medicine.
In 2003 Dr. Wellspring was managing a local horse stable in Durango, CO. After taking a fall when doing horse training at the barn she decided to go back to school to finish her degree in Animal Science at Fort Lewis with hopes of applying to veterinary school. By a twist of fate, she was introduced to Dr. Nasha Winters and discovered Naturopathic medicine. She was hired by Namaste as a Hydrotherapist and worked there for almost two years while she finished her undergraduate requirements at Fort Lewis. After learning more about Naturopathy from one of the profession’s finest, Dr. Winters, she decided to pursue Naturopathic medicine instead and changed her major to prepare for Naturopathic School.
While in Durango she interned at Hummingbird Herbals and later worked for two years at Dancing Willow Herbs as a manager. Her love for animals and herbs has always been her inspiration for medicine. While attending the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR, she took every opportunity to continue her study of herbs. The Northwest is saturated with some of the most incredible Herbalists in the world. She studied under famed herbalists Eric Yarnell ND, Paul Bergner, Sajah Popim, Donnie Yance, Matthew Wood and Steven Bruner. Dr. Wellspring believes it is nature’s gift that we have all the tools we need available for free in our backyards for any ailment we might come across and has the upmost respect and reverence for the plant kingdom.
Dr. Wellspring struggled with digestive issues since her 5-month adventure through Central America in her 20’s. While attending NUNM she was diagnosed with a form of IBS called SIBO. The symptomatic relief diet was difficult to follow and ultimately inspired her to create a website and blog where she offered information and recipes for free. She has since acquired a large international following on the web and has dedicated countless hours to investigating the condition and developing her own approach to the treatment of SIBO.
Always a proponent of using the least invasive, most cost effective modalities first, Dr. Wellspring remains true to the roots of Naturopathy. Dr. Wellspring has a deep appreciation for the healing powers of nature and believes that the body innately wants to be well. As a Naturopath, Dr. Wellspring works with the patient to discover and remove obstacles preventing the body from healing itself and supporting the body’s natural healing mechanisms (through the use of the various modalities listed below). Dr. Wellspring believes that in order to arrive at a complete cure the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspect of one’s nature need to be addressed. She has developed tools to dive deeply into all these realms if the patient should so desire. Her greatest desire for herself and others is finding inner peace. She loves people and loves hearing their stories and takes the role of confidant and health care provider very seriously. She looks forward to meeting you and working together so that you can achieve an optimum state of health.
Dr. Wellspring earned her B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a Minor in Chemistry from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO in 2011. She graduated from National University of Naturopathic Medicine in 2016 and joined Namaste Health Center in 2017. Dr. Wellspring has received additional mentorship trainings in Gastroenterology under the tutelage of Dr. Steven Sandberg Lewis ND and Dr. Allison Siebecker ND, Women’s health with Dr. Tori Hudson ND and Cardiology/ Pulmonology with Dr. Martin Milner ND while at NUNM. In 2015 Dr. Wellspring started the website www.sibodietrecipes.com where she provides free recipes and information on SIBO and IBS and has developed an international following. Her special areas of interest are (but are not limited to): digestive disorders, pediatrics, women’s health, hormone and immune system rebalancing as well as mental health.
